Roncade and Veneto

Roncade and Veneto

For most visitors, including art lovers, Veneto is the region of villas, fabulous holiday resorts, but also of agricultural production, which have left an indelible imprint on the territory and in the collective imagination ... There are villas of all kinds, but only one still maintains the medieval walls, so much so that it is often called 'castle': it is Villa Giustinian in Roncade, in the province of Treviso. Its history takes us back in time, around the Xth century, when the Holy Roman Emperor Otto II, gave the Collaltos a defensive structure; in the 1400s, with the Venetian conquest of Treviso, the structure passed to the noble Badoer family. In 1500 Girolamo Giustinian and his wife Agnesina Badoer built the building that we can still admire today, maintaining the medieval walls. In 1915, on the death of the last Giustinian, Maria, the castle was bought by the Baron Ciani Bassetti, to whom it still belongs. The current owner, has enhanced this place while maintaining the agricultural tradition, and especially viticulture, inherited from his family of Trentino origin. The vineyards around the castle, the cellar and the barrel cellar testify to the visitor the combination of history and human activity, representing a profound testimony of the civilization of the villa.

If you want to visit this original example of a Venetian villa, we recommend you to book the castle guided tour with tasting at the Castle of Roncade online: art, history and authentic flavors in an experience of great charm.
