Venice - Itinerary 1
Itinerary n ° 1
duration of the walk 2 hours
Venice can be traveled on foot or by boat, but we suggest you take a nice and relaxing walk to enjoy every corner, remember to wear comfortable shoes !!.
Starting from the S.Lucia train station, the main road is the Lista di Spagna and following the Strada Nuova, which easily lead to the city center. But if you already want to enter the maze of streets and see an authentic Venice, I suggest you cross the Ponte degli Scalzi, towards S.Giacomo dall'Orio, one of the oldest parts of the city. Here you will enjoy some authenticity, fields with children playing, restaurants, clubs and glimpses of truly suggestive canals. If you have time, visit the Church of S.Giacomo dall'Orio. Head towards S. Maria Mater Domini, it is worth paying a visit to the church of the same name, where inside there is a beautiful painting by Tintoretto and in the characteristic square there are precious buildings from the 1400s, with Byzantine decorations. Leaving the church behind you, continue towards Campiello Albrizzi and the Ca'Rampane. This district was a red light district until 1500 and a bridge called "of the tits" testifies to it, in fact here there were brothels that were legal. Turn around the calle dei Botteri, where the barrels were built and from here in a few minutes you will reach the famous Rialto Bridge and Market. The church of San Giacomo di Rialto is the oldest one of Venice. Rialto island was the define Venetians' settlement when they took refuge from the barbarian invasions. The Rialto bridge is particular for the presence of shops. Rialto was the commercial heart of the city where boats from all over the Mediterranean and the East arrived with their wares. When you get off the Rialto Bridge, take the road on the right and head towards S. Marco. You will walk through the Mercerie street, where you will find many shops for shopping and after ten minutes you will arrive at Piazza San Marco, also known as the drawing room of Europe. Do not miss the visit of the Basilca with its precious mosaics and the bell tower for an extraordinary view of the lagoon.
From here you can get the boat from S.Marco Calle Vallaresso and enjoy your way back by boat.
